Commander among 11 ANA troops surrender to Taliban

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Eleven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, including their commander, have surrendered to the Taliban in the Sozma Qala district of northe Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Sunday. Goveor Mohammad Zahir Wahdat told Pajhwok Afghan News Commander Shah Wali, in-charge of ANA unit in Kor-Khab locality developed links with his father who was the Taliban’s shadow district chief for Takhar’s Dasht-i-Qala district. He said the commander and another soldiers shifted their fellow ANA troops to Kohistanat district and handed them over to the Taliban. Former ruler's re-burial touches off angry protest in Gardez

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The reburial of Habibullah Kalakani, known as Afghanistan’s bandit king, triggered a protest in southeaster Paktia province on Friday. Kalakani was reburied in Kabul hours after an attack on the people carrying his coffin. At least four people were injured and one security official killed. Kalakani served as king for a few months in 1929. He led the revolt against King Amanullah’s modeisation plans with the help of various tribes. A number of political figures, including former Balkh goveor Atta Mohammad Noor, ex-intelligence chief Amrullah Saleh and others, held a ceremony for the reburial of Kalakani and 16 of his aides. The remains were reburied on Shahr-i-Ara Mount in Kabul after armed supporters of 1st Vice-President Gen. Abdur Rashid Dostum prevented the ceremony. After Juma prayers, demonstrators asked the govement not to stay silent on the issue. They waed the state funeral for Kalakani amounted to fuelling tensions among ethnic communities. Dostum breaks silence, alleges Ghani for centralising power

KABUL (Pajhwok): Firs Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum on Thursday hit out at President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani for centralising the power and waed to take final decision about his future in a grand gathering. Sale of poor-quality beverages on the rise in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The sale of poor-quality and expired beverages are on the rise in Kabul -- thanks to their low prices. Health experts say the consumption of such beverages cause cancer and other diseases. Kabul residents say the sale of such beverages has increased with the advent of summer. Carbonated drinks are mostly sold at lower prices by handcart drivers in the city. Qais Azizi, a resident of the capital, expressed conce over the rising sales of spurious beverages and food items. In many parts of the city, handcart drivers cheaply sell Coke, Fantaand juices. A juice box, costing 50 afghanis in the market, was sold for 20afs, biscuit of 30afs for 10afs, a bottle of milk worth 20afs for 10afs, he added. The use of such beverages and eatables led to a variety of ailments, he said, adding the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) was responsible for collecting the products from the market.
