PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Eight schools the Taliban had closed a couple of days ago in the Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province have been reopened, thanks to elders’ help, officials said on Monday. PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Eight Afghan citizens have been detained in Pakistan’s central Punjab province, a police spokesman said on Wednesday. The arrests were made in Sargodha district under the National Action Plan (NAP), an initiative aimed at reining in militants and terrorists across the country. SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Afghan forces’ airstrikes killed at least 18 insurgents, including two Uzbek fighters, in Qush Tepa district of northe Jawzjan province, an official said on Tuesday. Jawzjan police chief Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Turkistani told Pajhwok Afghan News the ground forces backed by air support were able to drive Taliban militants who had besieged the district centre for the last few days. He said the insurgents were also driven from Khanqa, Shir Bik and Gardan villages. LASKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 15 Taliban insurgents have been killed and eight others wounded during a clash in the Garmser district of southe Helmand province, an official said on Saturday. Omar Zwak, the goveor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan New the insurgents suffered casualties when they attacked security posts in the Banadar area of the district late on Friday. HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): As many as 234 Taliban have been killed and another 233 wounded in security forces’ operations during the past three months in weste Herat province, police said on Tuesday.
