Kunduz govt owes DABS millions in power arrears

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Some govement institutions and powerful individuals in northe Kunduz province owe 170 million afghanis to De Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) in unpaid electricity bills, an official said on Saturday.

Eng. Hameedullah, head of DABS for Kunduz, saidthe individuals who did not pay electricity duesfor the past few years were powerful and the defaulting institutions were govement entities.

“Theseinfluential people have to pay the power utility 68 million afghanis. Police and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) have repeatedly been asked for help, but no one is ready to assist us,” he complained.

Hameedullah said govement institutions such as the police headquarters and military units, owed more than 100 million afghanis in dues. A letter had been sent to the National Security Council (NSC) to help the DABS recover the arrears.”

But Brig. Gen. Qasim Jangalbagh, meanwhile, claimed the police headquarters paid its electricity dues a year after he took charge of the office. He promised DABS all-out help in dues recovery unpaid dues.The police chief asked DABS to give him a list of powerful defaulters.
