KABU (Pajhwok): The cleanliness department of Kabulinfo-icon Municipality was set to be privatised as city administration lacked equipment and other resources to discharge the cleanliness drive properly.

The view was expressed by Eng. Tawab Ahmadi, the cleanliness department head, during an exclusive chat with Pajhwok Afghan News.

He lamented currently 50 percent of the city garbage could not be shifted as his department struggled with the lack of vehicles and persoel.

“work on the division of Kabul city into five zones each with having five municipality district was underway after which the cleanliness derive of the city will be made privatised,” he said adding currently the department had 3,500 workers.

He said earlier, the private cleanliness programme was experienced in the 11th police district which had positive outcomes.

He said the currently capacity of municipality would get the support of private sector after the department was privatised and the problems in maintaining the city clean may be reduced.

He pointed out another problem of the department saying most of the cleanliness workers were of the old age and there was need for the recruitment of young individuals.

He asked the Kabul dwellers to cooperate with municipality in the cleanliness of the city, saying without their help they may not be able to succeed in any strategy.
