PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): An influential political figure has urged Pakistaninfo-icon and Afghanistaninfo-icon to work jointly to combat terrorism and overcome bilateral distrust.

The neighbours would continue to suffer without resolving key problems, the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief. Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, waed at a reception in Peshawar.

Development of the region was closely linked to peace and stability, said the former interior minister, who believed the involvement of all stakeholders would help improve the current situation.

There was strong optimism about progress when Ashraf Ghani took over as president, but later mistrust retued to plague Afghan-Pakistan relations, added the ex-chief minister.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa residents had immensely suffered in the war against terrorism and the province deserved more attention to remove the sense of deprivation among its people.
