2 girls’ schools get new buildings in Jawzjan

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Construction work on two school buildings has been completed in Shiberghan, the capital city of northe Jawzjan province, an official said on Monday.

Abdul Hai Yashin, the provincial education director, said 50 percent of schools in Jawzjan were without buildings, but even then the education system was functional in far-flung areas of the province.

He expressed these views while inaugurating the newly-constructed structures for two girls’ schools. He said the buildings cost $100,000 provided by a Canadian organization ‘A Better World’.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the new buildings would enable 100,000 students to study in a proper environment.

Yashin said currently 404 schools and religious seminaries were functional in the province, but half of them were without buildings. He, however, said no school was closed in Jawzjan even in remote areas.

A total 200,000 students, 40 percent of them girls, are taught at these and madaris.

Abdul Bashir, a youth union head, said their village was not a secure area, but residents braving all challenges were committed to sending their children to school.

Anisa, a student, expressed happiness over the construction of buildings for the girls schools. She said earlier they would attend classes in improper environment, which was not suitable for study.

It was for the second time the Canadian organization has constructed buildings for schools in Jawzjan.
