Man dead, children wounded in Baghlan rocket strike

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A young man was killed and two children were wounded in a rocket attack in Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of northe Baghlan province,on Tuesday.

A BM1 rocket landed in a house at around 8:30am, killing a 24 years old man and injuring two of his children, Baghlan police spokesman, Zabihullah Shuja told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Fired from Dand-i-Ghori locality, currently the scene of a military offensive, the rocket landed between the goveor’s house and the police headquarters, the official said.

He accused the Taliban of blindly firing rockets at govement offices. Civilians were the victims of such strikes, Shuja claimed.

Mohammad Zakir, a resident of the area, said: “We were in the street where the rocket hit the house of our neighbour and damaged its walls,”

He added people headed to the site to evacuate victims. Zakir, however, was unaware of the exact casualty figures.

A week earlier, a rocket fired from Dand-i-Ghori area hit the goveor’s house and left one person dead and a driver of the deputy goveor wounded.

During the ongoing solar year, the Taliban have fired at least 12 rockets from Dand-i-Ghori into Pul-i-Khumri, leaving several people dead and wounded.
