No project carried out in Ghazni in two years

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Residents and provincial council members on Saturday said no development projects were executed in southe Ghazni province during the past two years.

But local officials said several projects were in the pipeline to be implemented this solar year.

Provincial council head Hamidullah Nawroz told Pajhwok Afghan News Ghazni province had been facing many security problems last year.

“The security situation has somehow improved, but no development projects were carried out during the past two years and the reason is weak performance of the goveor’s house,” he said.

He called the current goveor as “unsuccessful” in handling his affairs, asking the central govement to pay attention to the problem.

Ghazni province needed a goveor who could generate jobs for the youth, implement construction projects and improve security, Nawroz added.

About five months back, President Ashraf Ghani appointed Amanullah Hamim as the goveor for Ghazni.

Mohammad Ajmal, a resident of Ghazni city, also said no projects were implemented in Ghazni during the past two years.

“The local govement would carry out many projects in the past to generate job opportunities for people, but from since long, we did not see any projects,” he said.

Ajmal said people would protest if local officials did not pay attention to their problems

Mohammad Daud, a resident of Andar district, said hundreds of jobless youth in his district awaited construction projects to be launched.

He said the increasing joblessness would force many youth into joining militants if the govement did not pay heed to the issue.

A number of other residents held similar views. Goveor’s spokesman, Javid Salangi confirmed construction projects could not be implemented during the past several months due to some problems.

“The financial year had ended and the weather tued cold when the new goveor took office, therefore no projects could be implemented so far,” he said.

He said the goveor was busy managing the security situation of the province and he had no time for other affairs.

However, Salangi said the local govement plaed to implement several projects in Ghazni during the ongoing year.
