LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least eight persons were killed and 48 others, including women
and children, wounded in a traffic accident on the Kabul
-Herat highway in southe Helmand province on Monday, an officials said.
A source in the Helmand Civil Hospital’s emergency ward confirmed eight dead and 48 injured had been evacuated to the hospital from the accident site.
But Transport Director Abdul Ghafoor Tokhi told Pajhwok Afghan News seven people were killed and 40 others wounded at 8:00am when a passenger flipped over after the driver lost control of the vehicle as a result of a collision in Washer district.
Salim Rodi, administrative chief for Helmand’s Greshk district, said the incident occurred when the passenger coach collided head-on with another vehicle. The crash left seven left dead and 48 other wounded.
Traffic Director Mirza Khan Rohani also confirmed the accident, but gave no more details. Similar traffic mishaps often happen in Helmand and elsewhere in the country due to reckless driving.
