PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A notorious Taliban
commander has been detained with weapons by police in Pul-I-Alam, the capital of central Logar province, an official said on Monday.
Police spokesman Maj. Shahpoor Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News Commander Nasrullah Hazifa was arrested in the Sarsang area of Pul-I-Alam during an oveight operation.
“We have long been trying to capture the commander. Finally, we were able to arrest him last night,” he said. Six Kalashnikovs, three pistols, a rocket launcher, five landmines, 12 rocket bullets and a motorcycle were seized from him.
Ahmad Shah, a resident of Sarsang, said: “A number of policemen came last night and surrounded a house. They took away a man and some weapons from the house. We do not know who the detainee is.”
The Taliban have not yet commented on the arrest. A week earlier, intelligence operatives had detained another Taliban commander in the Khoshi district of the province.
