Journalists awarded state medals, appreciation letters

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Presidential Palace on Wednesday awarded the prestigious Wazir Akbar Khan and Malalai Maiwand state medals to seven joualists, including a Pajhwok Afghan News reporter, and appreciation letters to five others in compliance with President Ashraf Ghani's order.

The joualists were honoured at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace marking World Press Freedom Day.

Presided over by Asaddullah Ghazanfar, cultural advisor to the president, the gathering honoured reporters who braved threats in line of their professional obligation.

Zeerak Fahim from Pajhwok Afghan News, Wali Aryan from Tolo News, Zafar Shah Rohi, from Hasht-i-Sybh daily and Bashir Qasani from 1TV were conferred the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan medal.

Similarly, Farahnaz Forotan of Aryana Television, Shakila Shirzad of Shamshad Television and Wahida Faizi of Salam Watandar were given ‘Malalai Maiwand war hero medal.

Shirshah Nawabi, a reporter with Khurshid Television, Najia Noori with Mandgar daily, Asmatullah Sarwash with Itlaat-i-Roz daily, Asmatullah Saleh Awghalay with Aeina Television and Zubair Shafiqi with Weesa daily received appreciation letters.
