Dam inauguration: President Ghani arrives in Herat

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani reached Herat City on Friday to inaugurate the Salma Dam together with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Presidential Palace said on Friday..

Ghani would meet with provincial officials and inaugurate the Indian-funded Friendship Dam jointly with Modi. “Pres.@AshrafGhani & PM @NarendraModi will inaugurate ‘Afghanistan-India Friendship Dam,” the Palace tweeted.

Kabul renamed the project from Salma dam to the Afghan-Indian friendship dam this year. The dam will generate 42 megawatts of electricity and irrigate around 75,000 hectares of agricultural land.
