KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Local officials in southeastern Khost province on Sunday pledged greater services and facilities for the residents of the provincial capital.

Khost City Mayor Eng. Mohammad Umar told Pajhwok Afghan News that 14 ongoing development projects, including the construction of roads, bridges, culverts and canals, would be completed soon.

He said the projects would be completed at a cost of 260 million afghanis. The most important project was the construction and rehabilitation of a seven kilometres road inside the city, he added.

“Some roads constructed decades earlier were in dilapidated condition and its rehabilitation was necessary and the municipality gives priority to the project,” the mayor added.

Residents expressed happiness over the execution of uplift project in the city, hoping most of their problems would be resolved with the completion of the projects.

Faizullah, a resident of Khost City, said during rainy days it was difficult to walk from one place to another because of ubiquitous ponds of stagnant water and piles of garbage.

Most roads in Khost City were constructed a decade earlier, but due to the use of low-quality materials, most of them have been damaged.
