Govt set 2 weeks deadline to reverse TUTAP route change

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Enlightenment Movement on Wednesday once again stressed TUTAP project’s implementation through central Bamyan province and set the government a two-week deadline to accept their demand.

Mohammad Arif Rahmani, a member of the movement, told a press conference in Kabul: “If the government ignores our demand until the Chehlam of Deh Mazang suicide attack martyrs, the Enlightenment Movement would get more strength and increase its civil activities.”

On July 23, more than 80 people were killed and 230 wounded in twin suicide attacks that ripped through a protest demonstration in Deh Mazang area of Kabul.

The government appointed a special commission for investigation into the incident. However, the movement said an international and impartial fact finding commission should investigate the attack.

A government commission chose the Salang route for the transnational multimillion power line project instead of Bamyan.

The commission had said routing the project through Salang would be cost and time effective.

TUTAP power line will import 500kv of power from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to Pakistan through Afghanistan.

The government says it would provide electricity to central provinces no matter from which route the project is implemented.

But Enlightenment Movement said they would take action again if the government ignored their demand.
